The real Mark Zuckerberg (26 years) |
Mark is a very intelligent boy, but also annoying, pedantic, sociopath. Fincher did not judge him (as he does not judge his creation) only to show his insecurities, his genius, his cunning almost involuntary, born of envy, the desire to emerge out of frustration, as evidenced by the depressing final scene, in which the creator of the most important social networks on the planet, ignoring its success and his wealth, seem interested only need to be accepted, especially by those who have previously refused, not included. The director puts the protagonist in a university that sees clearly contrasted those who succeed and those who do not, the winners and losers, Mark becomes the symbol of this opposition: a loser without friends and girls, rejected by the most exclusive clubs, to winning, through the treachery of his friend instead of a life that had made it, including guilt and sadistic satisfaction. The Social Network tells us something nontrivial about America, a country that rewards the talent and intuition yes, but also the ability to move in a capitalism that goes on, proliferate, creating enormous wealth almost regardless of the intentions of the actors: Mark does not seem to get rich, his actions, his betrayals are presented as inevitable: if you plan to emerge must betraying friends and morality, and be rewarded with the success it is this combination of geniality and shrewdness, original ideas and clever tricks.
